Publishing to Bluesky, Threads and Telegram: Reach Audiences Others Miss

· 5 min read

While the world watches the usual five platforms — Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, YouTube — three networks are quietly building enormous, engaged audiences that most publishing tools completely ignore. Bluesky's decentralized protocol is attracting users fed up with algorithmic manipulation. Threads is Meta's own text-first network growing by millions every month. Telegram channels have open rates that make email marketers weep with envy.

If your publishing tool does not cover these platforms, you are leaving audience segments on the table that your competitors can pick up for free.

Bluesky: The Decentralized Network Worth Taking Seriously

Bluesky runs on the AT Protocol — a decentralized architecture where each user's data lives on their own Personal Data Server (PDS), identified by a DID (Decentralized Identifier). This is not just a technical curiosity. It means users own their identity and can move between providers, which is fundamentally different from every other major social network.

For publishers, Bluesky matters because:

  • The audience is growing fast. Millions of active users, many of whom are journalists, developers, and tech-savvy early adopters — a highly engaged demographic.
  • Publishing is free. No API fees, no per-post charges.
  • The audience is underserved. Most social tools don't support Bluesky, so businesses that show up early build presence without competing against every brand on the planet.

LigiComms is one of very few publishing platforms that supports Bluesky natively, with its full DPoP-bound OAuth flow. Here's what that means technically: Bluesky is a public OAuth client with no secret. The API itself serves the client metadata document that serves as the client identity. Connect discovers the authorization server, generates a fresh ES256 DPoP key, runs a pushed authorization request with PKCE, and on callback exchanges the code for DPoP-bound tokens. Every publish call signs a DPoP proof per PDS request.

What that means for you: click connect, authorize, and start posting. The protocol complexity is entirely behind the scenes. Posts support up to 300 characters and 4 images. Hashtags are supported up to 5 per post.

Threads: Meta's Text-First Play

Threads is Meta's answer to X — a text-forward, conversational platform built on top of Instagram's identity system. With Meta's infrastructure and cross-promotion from Instagram, Threads has grown faster than almost any social network in history.

For businesses, Threads offers:

  • Access to the Instagram audience. Your Instagram followers can follow you on Threads with one tap. No cold start.
  • A conversational format. 500 characters, up to 10 images, 5 hashtags. Short-form text that encourages quick engagement.
  • Free publishing and free engagement. No API fees for posting. Reading comments and engagement counters is free. Reposts (shares) and views are tracked alongside likes and replies.

LigiComms publishes to Threads via Meta's Threads API with dedicated OAuth. Engagement metrics (likes, replies, reposts, views) are synced every 15 minutes. Threads mentions appear in the Sociobox inbox as one-message threads since Threads has no DM API.

Threads is the rare platform where being early and being consistent gives you disproportionate organic reach. The algorithm is young, the competition is low, and Meta is actively pushing content distribution to grow the platform.

Telegram: The Channel With 90% Open Rates

Telegram is not a social network in the traditional sense. It is a messaging platform with a broadcast feature (channels) and community feature (groups) that brands are increasingly using as a direct communication line with their most engaged followers.

Why Telegram matters:

  • Open rates. A Telegram channel post is delivered to every subscriber, with no algorithmic filtering. Open rates of 80-90% are normal — compared to email's 20-30% and social media's single-digit organic reach.
  • Rich media. Text, images, video, documents, polls. Telegram supports practically every content format.
  • Discussion groups. Channels can have linked discussion groups where followers comment on posts — essentially a comment section, but in a group chat format.

Connecting Telegram in LigiComms works differently from OAuth platforms. You provide your bot token and your channel's chat ID. The system validates the token (calling Telegram's getMe), verifies the bot can access the channel (calling getChat), and captures the linked discussion group ID — which is where comments live.

Publishing picks the right Telegram API method based on content: sendVideo for video, sendPhoto for images, sendMessage for text. The media caption limit is 1,024 characters — different from Telegram's text message limit of 4,096 — and LigiComms handles the switch automatically based on whether the post has media attached.

Why Most Tools Don't Cover These Platforms

The reason is economic. Most social media management tools prioritize platforms by market share. Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn — these have the most users, so they get built first. Adding a new platform means building an OAuth flow, a publisher, an engagement provider, a conversation provider, and testing against a live API. That's real engineering work.

Bluesky is especially complex (DPoP + AT Protocol + PDS resolution). Telegram uses a completely different authentication model (bot tokens, not OAuth). Tumblr uses OAuth 1.0a with HMAC-SHA1 — a standard most tools have stopped supporting.

LigiComms covers all of them because platform breadth is a core product decision, not a nice-to-have. The architecture uses a strategy pattern for every platform integration — each channel has its own OAuth provider, publisher, comment provider, and engagement provider. Adding a new platform is a class, not a rewrite.

Tumblr: The Creative Community Comeback

Tumblr is experiencing a genuine resurgence among creative communities, artists, writers, and niche fandoms. It's a different audience from LinkedIn professionals or Instagram influencers — and for brands in creative industries (art supplies, indie publishing, gaming, fashion), it's a goldmine.

LigiComms publishes to Tumblr via OAuth 1.0a (HMAC-SHA1 signed requests). Posts go to the member's primary blog as either a text post or a single-photo post with the body as caption. Hashtags go into Tumblr's dedicated tags field, not the body text. Free to publish, free to post.

The Early-Mover Advantage Is Real

On every platform, there is a window where organic reach is disproportionately high — before the algorithm matures, before the ad inventory fills, before every competitor shows up. Facebook had that window in 2012. Instagram in 2016. TikTok in 2020.

Bluesky, Threads and Telegram are in that window right now. The brands that establish a consistent presence today — while others are still "evaluating" — will be the ones with established audiences when the platforms reach mainstream scale.

Your publishing tool should make it effortless to be there. Not as a side project, not as a separate workflow, but as part of the same ten-network scheduling you already do every day.

The audience is there. The content is ready. The question is whether your tool can keep up — or whether you are leaving three growing platforms empty while your competitors fill them.
